Songs Of Faith And Hope Unyielding, Adapted and Performed By One Among The Faithless And The Desperate.

For various reasons, these songs, some of them centuries old, have been speaking to me a lot the past few months - screaming, even, at times - and here they've forced their way out of me, albeit with a couple verses re-written or conflated here or a melody fractured there. I don't know what it is that I need, here where I am, but whatever it is, there's something in here, in these songs, that speaks to it. Somewhere.

They're not songs that I grew up with or that I have any sort of nostalgic affection for or anything like this. Their inclusion here is not indicative of any sort of Christian faith on my part, or any faith at all. Some of them I've known for a long time, some I've only ever known on paper, and have only ever heard maybe a verse of, if even, usually sung a capella.

They've helped me articulate things that I'm either incapable of articulating, or that I'm too afraid to.

They've made sense at a time when little else does.
